Setara Logistics.  Subsidiary of the Setara Group.

Cross-border logistics between Canada and the US.

Setara Logistics plans Canada-US freight across truck, rail, ocean, and air, and coordinates customs clearance through our licensed broker partner so the entry is ready before the shipment reaches the border. Based in Ontario, moving freight both directions across the line.

What we do

One plan for the freight and the border.

A cross-border shipment is two problems at once: the physical move and the customs entry. When they are run separately, the truck reaches the bridge before the paperwork is ready, and the load waits. We plan both together.

Setara Logistics is a freight brokerage and forwarder with a vetted carrier network. We do not own the trucks and we do not file the customs entry ourselves. The freight moves through carriers we vet, and the customs entry is filed by our licensed broker partner, who deals with CBSA on the Canadian side and CBP on the US side.

For asset-based trucking on core lanes, that work runs through our sister company, Setara Transport, which operates its own trucks plus a vetted carrier network across Canada and the United States.

Modes across the line

Pick the mode against the load.

Truck (FTL & LTL)

Full and less-than-truckload across the border through our vetted carrier network, with FAST-lane awareness where a lane and the parties qualify.

Rail & intermodal

Intermodal for longer hauls where cost matters more than the last day of transit, with the truck legs coordinated on each end.

Ocean

International legs that route through North American ports, then move inland across the border by truck or rail under one coordinated plan.

Air

Time-critical freight where the transit window is short and the border step has to be handled fast and cleanly.

How a crossing runs

From booking to delivered, both sides of the line.

Plan the move and the entry together

We confirm the commodity, value, Incoterms, and route, then book capacity through our vetted carrier network and brief our licensed broker partner on the entry.

Prepare customs ahead of the border

Our licensed broker partner files the entry with CBSA or CBP so the clearance is in motion before the truck reaches the crossing, not after.

Use FAST-lane processing where it qualifies

When the lane and the trusted-trader parties qualify, FAST processing can speed the crossing. Where it does not, we plan around standard processing times.

Track to delivery on the far side

One contact owns the shipment from pickup to proof of delivery, including the entry filed by our broker partner, so you are not chasing two vendors for one load.

Questions

Cross-border, answered plainly.

Does Setara Logistics clear customs for cross-border shipments?
Setara Logistics is a freight brokerage and forwarder. Customs entries are filed by our licensed customs broker partner, who works with CBSA on the Canadian side and CBP on the US side. We coordinate the clearance alongside the freight so the paperwork is ready before the shipment reaches the border.
What modes can you move across the Canada-US border?
We plan cross-border moves by truck (FTL and LTL through our vetted carrier network), rail and intermodal, ocean for international legs that route through North American ports, and air for time-critical freight. We choose the mode against transit time, budget, and the commodity.
What is FAST and how does it help at the border?
FAST (Free and Secure Trade) is a joint CBSA and CBP program that gives expedited processing to pre-approved, low-risk shipments moving between trusted-trader importers, carriers, and drivers. When a lane and the parties qualify, FAST-lane processing can reduce wait times at the crossing.
Do I need my own customs broker to ship cross-border?
Most commercial importers use a licensed customs broker to file entries and manage duties and taxes. You can use ours through our licensed broker partner, or your own. Our guide on whether you need a customs broker in Canada walks through the decision.
How does CARM affect importing into Canada?
CARM is the CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management system, which changes how importers register, post financial security, and account for duties and taxes. Importers of record need to be set up correctly in the CARM Client Portal. See our CARM explainer for the details.
